Would You Cut Your Own Hair?

Would you cut your own hair?A year ago, a story about supermodel Gisele Bündchen cutting her own hair circulated around the internet, giving hope to some women everywhere that a perfect, tousled runway look might not have to cost them an arm and a leg (unless, in the case of Gisele, you immediately went to the salon to get it re-cut). The popular beauty blog, Fashionista, discussed the story and the author found it curious how the story ended up being such a big deal.

Former Fashionista editor, Natalie Hormilla, revealed that she trimmed her own hair and hadn’t stepped foot into a professional salon in years. She went on to say that most women could get away with styling their own hair in their own homes!

Do you agree? Has anyone tried cutting their own hair? If so, how did it turn out?

Feel free to leave tips for our readers who may be interested in following the “Gisele” route!

Nothing replaces th fantastic metmorphasis-like feeling of going to a salon and getting your haircut. I have cut my own hair (an assymetrical bob during the Katie Holmes trend uprise) and liked it but a shampoo, cut, and blow out by a pro is irreplaceable. If you’ve got the cash, why not? But if your tight on the dollar or don’t like risking your ‘do to a scissor yielding stranger, stay home and learn the artform. There’s plenty of Youtube vids to help with the process.

I cut my own hair just this week! It was the first time, but it turned out fine. I have long, wavy hair, so I think it is probably more “goof proof” than a shorter cut. I don’t think I’d try to cut it if it was shorter.
The ends of my hair were dry and split, and since I stay home with my two kids, finding the time to get a cut was impossible. So I took matters into my own hands. I only trimmed an inch or two off, but it looks fine to me! No one has made any negative comments, and it feels so much more healthy. And my wallet isn’t hurting either!

HECK NOOOOOO- I would NEVER cut my hair- I leave that to the PROFESSIONAL!

I’ve cut my own hair and messed it up. I am also a licensed hairdresser! Just because I know what to do on my clients does not mean I can do it to myself. I don’t try to do anything more than a bang trim now.

Great comments, ladies! It’s always helpful for people to hear from those who have, those who won’t, etc. and so far we have a great mix!

Joyce, thanks for your comment as well–a hairdresser’s point of view is always welcome! :)

    Keep these helpful comments coming!

when i had long hair that went to my lower back i would cut it myself. it may not have been perfectly even (no one ever said anything to me) but i would just thin it out and layer it. it worked for me! and i also would cut my own bangs. one time i cut them shorter then i meant to but i ended up loving them.

i just hate that since im a military wife, and i have to move often, i have to find a stylist over and over again! and ive been through so many that were just terrible. its really a frustrating process to find someone who just knows what you want…
