Dr. Daniel Anderson

MIT Associate Professor, David H. Koch Inst. for Integrative Cancer Research

Dan received his Ph.D. in molecular genetics from the University of California at Davis. At MIT, he pioneered the use of robotic methods for the development of smart biomaterials for use in medical devices, cell therapy and drug delivery. In particular, the advanced drug delivery systems he has developed provide new methods for nanoparticulate and microparticulate drug delivery, non-viral gene therapy, siRNA delivery, and vaccines.

Dan currently is the senior scientific advisor for the Living Proof discovery group as well as senior advisor on the company's intellectual property strategy.

Jon Flint

Chairman and Co-Founder, Living Proof
Co-founder and General Partner, Polaris Partners

Jon originated Living Proof's vision of assembling a team of medical and biotech scientists to develop advanced technology for consumer hair and skin products. Jon served as CEO of Living Proof from November 2010 through December 2011. He is also the co-founder and a managing general partner of Polaris Partners, a $3 billion venture capital fund with offices in Boston, New York City, and San Francisco. Jon's current board seats include Athletes' Performance and JibJab Media.

Dr. Robert Langer

Co-founder and Board Member, Living Proof
MIT Institute Professor

Dr. Bob Langer is one of only 13 MIT Institute Professors and the pioneer of tissue engineering and drug delivery through the skin without needles.  His research has led to treatments for over 10 million patients.  With his name attached to over 800 patents and thousands of articles, Bob is the most cited engineer in history.  In addition to over 210 awards, Bob holds the distinction of being the youngest person ever elected into all three National Academies (science, engineering and medicine). He has been named one of the 18 most important people in science or medicine and one of 15 innovators who will reinvent the future.  Bob is a co-founder, Chief Scientific Advisor and idea generator for the scientific discovery at Living Proof.

Dr. Amir Nashat

Partner, Polaris Partners

Amir has been investing in technology breakthroughs at Polaris since 2002. During this time, he has helped start companies in areas ranging from bioactive devices to stem cells to consumer devices to energy. As the startup CEO of Living Proof (then named Andora), Amir led much of our early technological innovation and creation. Prior to joining Polaris, Amir did basic research on advanced composite materials and bioactive micro-machines at UC Berkeley, and polymers and neural stem cells at MIT.

Mitch De Rosa

Stylist and Owner, Mitchell John Salon

A hairstylist and color expert for over 25 years, Mitch trained alongside the top hairstylists in North America and Europe before launching his own salon, Mitchell John Salon in 1989, located in Boston's Financial District. Over the years, Mitch has worked with such magazines as Italian Vogue, German Elle, and Harper's Bazaar as well as with models and celebrities, including Gisele Bundchen, Natalia Vodianova and Daria Werbowy. Mitch is actively involved in all areas of Living Proof's business including technology screening and product evaluation across our hair and skin programs.

Ward Stegerhoek

Editorial and Runway Stylist

Ward began his career as a teenager styling hair in some the most progressive salons in Amsterdam. Trained at the Vidal Sassoon Academy, he quickly realized that his interest was in styling for editorial and runway and made his way to Paris. Since then, he has worked around the world for Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Numero, Elle, Marie Claire and Allure. He has also been the creative stylist on the runway shows for Jean Paul Gaultier, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino and Donna Karan; he's also worked with some of the world's top photographers and celebrities, including Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz. Ward spent seven years as art director and product developer for Bumble & Bumble. Today, Ward is working on new product development at Living Proof.

Jill Beraud

Chief Executive Officer

Jill Beraud is a global leader of multi-billion dollar iconic brands in fashion, beauty and consumer products. Prior to joining Living Proof, Jill was President of their Starbucks/Lipton Joint Ventures and Global Chief Marketing Officer at Pepsico, where she was responsible for developing brand and marketing strategies for PepsiCo's $60 billion portfolio of food and beverage brands. Previously, Jill spent 13 years at Limited Brands as CMO of Victoria's Secret and EVP of Marketing for its broader portfolio of specialty brands, including Bath & Body Works, C.O. Bigelow, Express, Henri Bendel, and Limited Stores. She began her career at Procter & Gamble. Jill received her MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BS from Boston University.

Dr. Daniel B. Dubin

Vice Chairman, Leerink Swann; Founder, MEDACorp

Dr. Daniel Dubin has served as an advisor to life sciences companies and investors for the past 16 years. Prior to working at Leerink Swann, he served as Chariman of MetaWorks, instructor of dermatology at Harvard Medical School, and member of the Clinical Executive Committee at the Bringham and Women’s Hospital. Dan also founded MEDACorp, a provider of insights on the commercial potentials of biotherapeutics and medical devices to institutional investors and life science companies. He is a board-certified dermatologist and has published over 30 manuscripts in peer-reviewed publications.

Prior to Lands' End, Edgar was Executive Vice President of Global Business Development for Liz Claiborne, Inc. He has previously led other top luxury brands as CEO of Juicy Couture and President of L'Oréal Luxury Product Division Europe/U.S. He brings to the board valuable expertise in portfolio management of global beauty brands, as well as extensive knowledge in people and resource management to create long-term sustainable growth.

Peter Barton Hutt, Esq.

Senior Counsel, Covington & Burling

Peter has had his hands in almost every major food and drug law passed in the last 35 years. He served as chief counsel for the FDA and long term outside counsel of the Personal Care Products Council, the Grocery Manufacturers of America and the Council for Responsible Nutrition. In recent years, he has become deeply involved in the biotech field and helps Living Proof understand regulatory issues.

Dr. Rox Anderson

Director, Wellman Center for Photomedicine, Massachusetts General Hospital
Professor of Dermatology, Harvard Medical School

Dr. Rox Anderson graduated from MIT and received his MD degree from the joint MIT-Harvard medical program.  Rox’s  research led to the development of many of the non-scarring laser treatments now widely used in medicine to treat birthmarks, macular degeneration, cancer, acne and hair removal.  Rox led the team that developed the technology behind the revolutionary Fraxel® laser system which smoothes wrinkles and lessens the effects of sun damage.  Rox has been awarded over 60 national and international patents, and has co-authored over 250 scientific books and papers.

Dr. David Puerta

Advisor, Hair Discovery

David received his Ph.D. from the University of California at San Diego where he focused on the design, synthesis and evaluation of small molecule inhibitors of metalloproteins. His work led to the discovery and development of a new class of metalloprotein inhibitors and changed the way researchers look at the design of such compounds. During his four year tenure, David's research led to over a dozen publications and two US patent applications. As an advisor to our haircare program, he's been at the forefront of how our technology works with the physiology of hair.

Michelle Brett

Vice President of Retail Sales

Michelle brings over 15 years of experience in driving sales growth and launching brands in the retail sector. Prior to joining Living Proof, Michelle launched and built several successful independent beauty brands including Jonathan Product, Caudalie and L'Occitane, managing various aspects of sales including brick & mortar, electronic retailing, wholesale and b2b. Today, Michelle oversees the planning and execution of Living Proof's global sales and education strategy.

Dr. Thomas H. Jozefiak

Vice President, Discovery

Tom is an organic chemist and materials scientist with over 20 years of experience in research and product development. He has held research positions at Caltech, GE Plastics, Eastman Kodak, GelTex Pharmaceuticals and Genzyme Corp. Prior to joining Living Proof, Tom was VP, Biomaterials Science and Engineering at Genzyme where he directed research programs in adhesion prevention, hemostasis, surgical sealants, and nanoparticle technology. He is an inventor or author on numerous patents and publications in diverse areas including therapeutic polymers, medicinal chemistry, biomaterials, and silver halide imaging chemistry.

Jay Morris

Vice President/GM, Salon Channel

Jay has over 20 year experience in the professional beauty industry and has held senior level positions with American Crew, Creative Nail Design, Alterna and GKhair. In addition he owned a successful professional beauty distributorship in Arkansas and Texas, as well as owning 2 salons in Dallas, Texas. He has received several industry awards and achievements, including being honored as an industry “Young Gun” by American Salon Magazine for outstanding growth and commitment to the professional beauty industry, appointed to “President’s Advisory Board” L’Anza Research Int’l, Board Member “Executive Planning Team” for Creative Nail Design, and Principal and Board Member for Alterna Holdings, Inc.

Grace Ray

Chief Marketing Officer

Grace has over 13 years of experience building successful brands, launching profitable product lines, and driving all aspects of consumer marketing. Prior to joining Living Proof as CMO, Grace was the VP of Global Marketing at Smashbox Cosmetics, which was recently acquired by Estee Lauder. At Smashbox, she played an instrumental role in building the brand to become one of the fastest growing prestige cosmetic brands in the world, overseeing all aspects of new product strategy, brand development, marketing, merchandising and public relations. Prior to Smashbox, Grace gained substantial marketing experience with L’Oreal and Nestle where she led brand management and innovation of several global brands. Grace holds an MBA from Harvard and an engineering degree from University of Michigan.

Jon Shore

Vice President, Finance and Operations

Jon brings 20 years of experience in accounting, finance, and strategic management to Living Proof. He has experience in both the high tech and biotech industries in raising venture equity and has led efforts to secure several debt facilities at prior organizations. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Finance and Operations for Rhytec, a medical device manufacturer. Prior to this position, he also held senior finance and operations positions at several start-up organizations. Jon began his career in public accounting at Deloitte and Touche and is a CPA. At Living Proof, he is responsible for all of the financial, administrative, and logistical operations.

Eric Spengler

Chief Commercialization Officer and SVP of R&D.

Eric Spengler joined Living Proof in September, 2007. Eric is a seasoned consumer product development expert with over 27 years of research and development experience. Prior to joining Living Proof, Eric was Sr. Director OTC Health Care Development at Combe Incorporated where he led technical new product development for Combe's skin care, feminine care, oral care, denture care and men's grooming businesses. Before joining Combe, he held the position of Sr. Director of Hair Color Product Development for Clairol and VP R&D for Clairol's professional salon division - Matrix Essentials. Prior to Clairol, Eric gained substantial development experience with Procter & Gamble where he led the development of several global skin care new product introductions for Olay and Clearasil.

Dr. Ariya Akthakul

Principal Engineer, Skincare & New Material Discovery

Ariya earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT, working in Anne Mayes' Lab designing a molecular platform for surface self-organization of their patented copolymers. His demonstrations on how these copolymers improved the water filtration membranes for their productivity and bio-fouling resistance have earned him several scientific publications, patents, and awards from MIT, American Physical Society, and Materials Research Society. Prior to joining LivingProof, Ariya led a sensor development team for an electronic nose device at CogniScent, where he served as its R&D leader/manager for five years. Prior to CogniScent, Ariya was a critical team member of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) initiation at Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Dr. Kevin J. Bittorf

Vice President of Process Development and Analytical Technologies

Dr. Kevin J. Bittorf comes to Living Proof with extensive experience in product development and manufacturing scale-up for a wide range of OTC, generic and prescription medications including many different dosage forms. Most recently, Kevin led the formulation development for Incivek, Vertex’s oral treatment for hepatitis C, a drug that holds the record for the fastest achievement of $1Bn in sales. In this role Kevin utilized a “Quality by Design” (QbD) framework by which Vertex develops all of its medicines, to ensure a robust product and process. As part of this process Kevin introduced multiple real-time analytical technologies into the laboratory and commercial manufacturing, to achieve process robustness when tight specifications were required. During his tenure in product development, Kevin has extensive experience working with contract manufacturers in North America, Europe and Asia, and he built in patient-friendly packaging and ease of storage. Kevin has been an innovator in each position he has filled, most recently designing a continuous processing initiative for Vertex Pharmaceuticals’ products. Kevin received his PhD in Chemical Engineering (Dissertation: Mixing Scale-up of Multi-Phase Processes) and his MBA in 2000 from the University of Alberta.

Dr. Soo-Young Kang

Principal Scientist

Prior to joining Living Proof, Soo-Young worked for several years under the supervision of world-renowned cancer researcher Dr. Judah Folkman in the Vascular Biology Program at Children's Hospital Boston/Harvard Medical School. Prior to her work with Dr. Folkman, she completed her Ph. D. in multidisciplinary fields of biochemistry, nutritional science and toxicology at Michigan State University, and completed a year of postdoctoral fellowship in Cancer Cell Biology at the Harvard School of Public Health. She has received numerous honors and awards for her pioneering research, in particular her work elucidating the role of proteins secreted by tumors in providing a natural check-point for metastasis. Soo-Young received Children's Hospital Boston's Cellular, Molecular and Clinical Research Best Young Researcher's Award for this work. She joined Living Proof not only with deep understanding and extensive experience of cell biology but also passion for new discovery in skin care products. Soo-Young plays a pivotal role in our innovative skincare discovery and is working on biological aspects in new material discovery.

Ron McLaughlin

Vice President, Product Development

Ron brings 14 years of experience in product development and supply to Living Proof. Prior to joining the company, Ron was the Formulation/Process Manager in beauty care product supply for Proctor & Gamble. Ron also held the position of Project Chemist for 13 years with the Gillette Company where he developed and launched over 40 products for the Personal Care Group, including four patented technologies. While at Gillette, Ron also directed all R&D functions for cross division projects between Personal Care, Braun, Gillette Blade and the Razor Advanced Research Group. His products led to strategic brand launches for Fusion, Mach 3, Gillette Series and Satin Care, helping make Gillette the #1 brand in Europe and North America in its category.

Eric Spengler

Dr. Betty Yu

Vice President, Skincare & New Material Discovery

Betty Yu was the first hire for Living Proof. She received her doctorate training in the Langer Lab, where her thesis research focused on elucidating transdermal transport mechanisms. She holds a Doctor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering Practice, both from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to Living Proof, Betty led the development of a controlled-release, liquid oral delivery platform at Alza Corporation to enable avenues for clinical evaluation of poorly-soluble pipeline discovery compounds for Johnson and Johnson. Her past experiences have included engineering positions at innovative, technology-driven companies such as Hewlett Packard, Applied Materials, Dow Chemicals and Merck. Her exposure to advancing technologies to achieve the specific needs across a diverse span of industries helped build upon the first-rate science foundations that drove the technology discovery pipeline in the early stages of the venture.

Chris McMillan

Celebrity Stylist

Chris knows beautiful hair - he has an impressive roster of celebrity clients like Miley Cyrus, Michelle Williams, Hugh Jackman, and, most notably, longtime client Jennifer Aniston, Living Proof’s co-owner and haircare spokesperson. Plus his work has appeared on the covers of countless magazines, among them Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Rolling Stone. Chris is actively engaged in Living Proof brand building, product development, and retail/salon events and programs, and he collaborates regularly with our full team of stylists.

Tim Rogers

Creative Director

Tim has helped create iconic images working with photographers such as Annie Liebowitz, Patrick DeMarchelier, and Norman Jean-Roy for publications such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, and InStyle. He has worked on notable personalities such as Carey Mulligan, Adele, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kristen Wiig, and Blake Lively. At Living Proof, Tim works on product development, represents our brand on QVC, and collaborates regularly with our full team of stylists.
